We’re jumping right into to catch you up on the past 8 years before the diagnosis, which we call “My Why Story”, the short version of how life broke down and the adult regression that led us to discover the process of initiating a neuropsychiatric evaluation, and finally learning the truth (The Big Reveal), and the “Relief & Grief” phase that came with an official diagnosis. While we know not everyone will or can opt to get an evaluation, the process of self-identifying with Neurodiversity can feel similar.
Welcome to the PILOT episode of You Don’t Sound Autistic with Blake and Rachelle. Blake is autistic. Rachelle is not.
If you’re like Blake, you’ve always known something was different about you. People treated you differently but wouldn’t explain why. Most relationships ended and somehow you were blamed directly or you felt it was your fault. Then you’re in the right place. Welcome to the YDSA Tribe. Whether you’re the Neurodiverse individual (with or without a diagnosis) or a family member/friend grappling to offer support, you’re accepted here and we’re so glad you found us.
During this podcast, we will deep-dive into what life is like today living in a neuro-integrated family. When we were fighting our way through the dark and often with each other, we didn’t know what was happening or even what to type into a search engine text box to find answers. We turned to family.
There’s a very disappointing process that happens when our next closest immediate family learn about the coping mechanisms, anger, rage, fights and struggles. They do the only thing they know to do. They search their personal and older family history and find the judgements, denials and stigmas that were passed down to them. We know how much that stings and scars.
Now that you’ve found our You Don’t Sound Autistic Podcast, you’ll always have a safe place to ask questions, offer solutions and feel like a member of a tribe that truly understands what you’re experiencing, without stigmas and judgement. We’re on the journey to find a healthy way to approach mental health for everyone in the family. We might fail at one strategy but we’ll own it, tell it and keep looking.
Looking at family history, the only repeating pattern was alcoholism and divorce. We’ll talk candidly about the breakdowns we are confronting in every day life, our marriage/divorce, individuality, social expansion, career pursuits, goal setting/seeking, and the honest truth about life without awareness for mental health. Tune in as we dive deep into and illuminate the world of adult and family neurodiversity.
